Princess Party @FairytaleGirl

On May 11th we ordered a princess for my daughters birthday. Let me just say it was a HUGE hit, even the adults liked her.

The company we used here in Michigan was called FairyTale Entertainment. Rapunzel was the guest and she did not disappoint. She danced with the kids, sang songs, played games/prizes and even gave the birthday girl some special gifts. Since I'm going to go picture crazy I'll keep the words short, just be sure to check them out!

Finding Kind (Stopping female bullying)

                                        findingkind.com | kindcampaign.com

About Finding Kind
In February 2009, two young women, Lauren Parsekian and Molly Thompson joined forces having both been affected by female bullying throughout their youth and decided to create change by giving females a platform to speak out about this universal experience. What began as an idea for a documentary about girl-against-girl bullying, ultimately became Kind Campaign, an internationally recognized movement, documentary, and school assembly program based on the powerful belief in KINDness that brings awareness and healing to the negative and lasting effects of girl-against-girl “crime.”

In this endearing documentary, a pair of best friends (who happen to be queen-bee pretty girls, but no matter) travel the country speaking with middle and high school girls about their pain and the pain they’ve caused others. It’s a sweet, earnest addition to the current anti-bullying movement. A few confessional scenes—little girls in braces pouring their broken hearts into the camera—will stick with you. LINDY WEST (the Stranger)

About Finding Kind Filmmakers

Lauren Parsekian (Director/Writer/Producer)
Lauren grew up in Laguna Niguel, Orange County, and currently resides in Los Angeles. The way girls treat each other has had a lot of significance in Lauren's life. Finding a way to stop girl bullying in schools across America has been an important Issue for as long as she can remember. All of the careers she has considered have been with one common goal in mind: to foster awareness of the emotional, verbal, and physical abuse within female relationships. Lauren was one of the "popular girls" in middle school. But after the clique turned against her, school became a source of stress, depression, and even frequent thoughts of suicide. Through high school and college, Lauren witnessed the same kind of "mean girl" behavior around her. As a film student at Pepperdine, Lauren realized the enormous good documentaries can do and decided to apply her passion for film to this issue and make a documentary about the way girls treat each other and the way it affects us.  Lauren is scheduled to marry actor Aaron Paul (“Breaking Bad”) in May, 2013.
For me, the hardest time was middle school. It’s a funny thing to think about, because ten years later, I can still vividly recall every terrible memory from that time of my life. I truly hope that the message of Kind Campaign speaks to you, and that you know how special you are. I know it's extremely hard to be a girl. It's hard for ALL of us. However, I have confidence that through Kind Campaign we will all come together to create a community and an awareness that will change this problem.

Molly Thompson (Producer)
Molly grew up In Dallas, Texas before moving to California to attend Pepperdine University to study acting and film/television production. Molly's negative experience with girl bullying occurred in high school. Ostracized by a group of girls, she feared answering the phone, going to school, and felt a terrible loneliness. A small core of loyal friends stuck by her, and the year ended on a note of healing and forgiveness. Molly has always had a passion for helping others and for the way film affects people and can inspire them to action, so when Lauren approached her to collaborate on a documentary about middle school bullying between girls, Molly agreed. While working together on Finding Kind, Lauren and Molly saw how open women and girls were about sharing their experiences. They realized that this is an issue that affects females of all ages, and they were inspired to launch a movement to spread the word of kindness. Kind Campaign is the result of that moment of inspiration. Molly is thrilled to shed light on this serious issue and unite women and girls together under an umbrella of kindness. She considers herself very lucky to be working with such a close friend on a project she loves, evidence of the power of female friendship.
I have been extremely touched and inspired by the reaction to Kind Campaign and “Finding Kind.” It is a testament to the serious effects of this Issue and the need for change in the way we as females treat each other. Being ostracized, criticized, or ridiculed should not be considered a rite of passage, and it doesn't have to be this way.

Finding Kind Press & Recognition

“With two daughters of my own, I have made protecting children a priority of mine throughout my career. As attorney general, I introduced legislation to protect children from school violence. And as governor, I signed legislation requiring school districts to pay more attention to bullying. I appreciate the message of ‘Finding Kind,’ and encourage parents and educators to use this documentary as a powerful tool to address this important topic with children. Fundamentally, this is a film that encourages tolerance and promotes kindness,     stimulating conversation within families and communities about putting a stop to bullying behavior once and for all.” -- Chris Gregoire, Governor of Washington

Real Stories of Overcoming Body Image Lies Women Believe with God's Truth

Throughout this book, Christian women share their stories of how they have struggled with body image lies and a distorted view of themselves. However, each of their stories also contains hope - the hope of replacing these lies with God's truth. Our prayer for you is that you find encouragement within these pages and allow Christ to transform you with His truth.

We Are Each Created Unique

God has created each one of us with unique abilities, unique talents and a unique personality. As women we are influencers and God has given us that role and our beauty to share with others. Yet so often we settle for a counterfeit. The enemy has counterfeited our idea of beauty, convincing us to share our beauty with the world in a distorted way. Today that often means that we see our beauty as what we look like on the outside.

What Lies Have You Been Believing?

Join us for the journey of replacing body image lies with truth from God's Word.

How To Potty Train A Child That Doesnt Want To Learn

When I started potty training with my daughter she was 2 1/2 years old. At the time I thought she was a stubborn child but I realize now she was ONLY 2. When it came to her brother he had no interest in learning. I tried when he was 2 and 3 and by 4 I was done trying. In my eyes if he can write his name then he should start learning to pee like a big kid. I set everything up just like I did with his sister and still he didn't care. He could sit on the potty for a hour, do nothing and get up and pee. I used treats and toys to bribe and nope NOTHING. He would say he "didn't want to get on the potty train."

We stopped using diapers when he was 2 and started using pull-ups but that did NOT help him. He still went potty in them and then it started to happen.. He started giving me a hard time when it was time for a change. I mean who likes to stop playing and get undressed in front of everyone (not me)

While browsing Pinterest I seen a link for the 3 day boot camp and decided today is the day (day after his 4th b-day).  Figured I will share these steps with you, just like when I did with my daughter. Never know might help someone else in a similar situation. This time around I tossed out any idea I had for my daughter b/c he was/is nothing like her.

STEPS

Buy Boxer/Briefs I say this so child can be covered in something like shorts and not running around naked. My son has to have something on or cries. I still  have pull ups so now that he understands I let him wear them. Don't do this till they understand the potty and are using it.

Show child the potty and how to pull down under pants. DONT MAKE HIM SIT ON THE POTTY and TRY. Instead ASK him every 10 mins and remind him to use the potty and not to get his clothes wet.

Your child will have an accident. DO NOT YELL. Instead tell him you want him to use the potty and it makes you sad when he gets his clothes wet. Don't make him feel like crap use a good tone and deliver it in a nice way.

Let child run around in a shirt boxers and socks..NO PANTS. I noticed when I put pants on he would have an accident.

When child uses the potty..EXCITEMENT!! use lots of high fives and BIG BOY now. I would get a box of dollar store toys cause treats can turn into a lot.

NO PANTS. NO FORCING. NO YELLING. LOTS OF REMINDING. LOTS OF PRAISE.

*This will only work if you and your child are FULLY ready to learn. A good sign is the throwing a fit at changing time. Both my kids did that. If it doesn't work, wait and try again.

It has been 5 days and by day 3 he has had maybe 1 accident. He now understands and I agree to let him wear pants if he tells us he has to use the potty and it's working!

@TheMovieJam & @FoxHomeEnt Movie - The Oranges DVD

So, You’re Still Living at Home?

Description: Macintosh HD:Users:ashley knox:Desktop:Alia_The Oranges .jpg

In The Oranges, two suburban families are squeezed when a rebellious daughter Nina (Leighton Meester) returns home and begins an adulterous affair with long-time family friend David Walling (Hugh Laurie).  The story is told from the perspective of recent college grad/moved-back-in-with-her-parents, Vanessa (Alia Shawkat), who’s caught in the middle of it all.  Moving back home may not be the most ideal situation, but here are some tips we’ve learned from watching Vanessa maintain.

Tip #1:  Own Your Space – Remember that place you used to hide as a kid?  It could have been your favorite tree or a special nook where you built your forts?  Recreate that space for yourself now as an adult.  Find that one spot in your apartment or transform your bedroom or office and make it truly yours. It’s vital to your emotional and mental well being to have a place where you can unwind, cry, laugh, and sometimes hide from your…overbearing mother.

Tip #2: Remember Your Parents Were Young Once Too It’s normal to become irritated from the lack of privacy, but you can take this opportunity to learn something new about your parents.  They have vast insights at your disposal: embarrassing dating stories, financial woes, cooking tips and more! Save the money you’d use for a therapy session and tap into that parental resource of knowledge.  Like Carol (Allison Janney) and Nina (Leighton Meester), you might rediscover a connection you lost during those rebellious teenage years.

Tip #3:  Keep Your Siblings Close – If your sibling doesn’t currently live at home, this actually works in your favor.  Not only does visiting your brother or sister give you more space, but depending on where they live, it also can double as a mini vacation. In exchange for room and board, you can also provide the most up-to-date family gossip to your estranged sibling. Vanessa’s older brother Toby (Adam Brody) was spared from learning of his father’s affair with his love interest but had his sister to soften the blow when he ultimately discover the truth.

Tip #4:  Take on More Responsibility – Given today’s economic climate, many young adults live at home, but for those that have simply feared being leaving the comfort of the nest – perhaps try do take on a few activities that are normally outside your comfort zone.  Volunteer with a local charity or get a pet!  Look for a job with a leadership position to increase not only your experience but also your confidence.   Vanessa has her eyes on a dream job with a furniture design firm.  What motivates you to get you moving?

Tip #5:  Keep It Balanced – Living at home may not always enable you to play hostess for swanky dinner parties, but that’s no reason to hide inside.  Explore the advantages that come with living at home; like being able to venture out and escape to a party and then retreat to a quiet night with a new Blu-ray and your favorite sweet treat.

We hope that these tips will help you to survive family antics while pursuing “you-time” in the process.  For more lessons on how to deal from Vanessa be sure and check out The Oranges, available today on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Copy.
